ISW Program Held on March 10 to 14

The Graduate School of Dentistry recently concluded its annual “International Student Week” (ISW) program, welcoming six dental students from the University of Hong Kong for an enriching educational and cultural exchange from March 10th to 14th.

The program kicked off with a warm welcome lunch hosted by Dean Nishimura, providing a relaxed setting for the visiting students to interact with faculty and acclimate to their unique environment. Their eagerness to learn about dentistry in Japan was readily apparent, engaging Dean Nishimura and Prof. Kato with insightful questions.

Over the course of the week, a diverse program displaying the strengths of the Graduate School unfolded. Students participated in mini lectures, toured various clinical departments, and explored state-of-the-art facilities. Their enthusiasm for learning was evident in their attentive listening and initiative-taking participation.

A highlight of the week was an interactive session with current students. The students from Hong Kong delivered impressive presentations about their university and culture in fluent English, offering valuable insights and inspiration to their Japanese counterparts.

Reflecting on their experience, the visiting students expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to connect with practicing dentists and local students, emphasizing the value of experiencing firsthand the Japanese dental field. They were particularly impressed by specialized centers and treatment departments not available at their home institution.

The ISW program has proven to be an invaluable opportunity for international dental students to broaden their horizons, deepen their understanding of dentistry, and forge lasting connections.

The Graduate School of Dentistry remains committed to fostering global partnerships and cultivating future generations of dentists and researchers equipped to excel on an international stage. While the 2024 ISW marked the culmination of the program in its current format, the Graduate School is excited to announce plans for an expanded international program in 2025, welcoming students from an even wider range of countries.
