ISW Program Held on May 19 to 23

The Graduate School of Dentistry recently concluded its annual “International Student Week” (ISW) program from May 19th to 23rd. Four students from Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) and Chonnam National University (South Korea) participated in this enriching international exchange.

The program commenced with an orientation led by Professor Hata of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, followed by a welcoming luncheon hosted by Dean Nakano. Professor Takedachi, head of the ISW Working Group and the Department of Periodontology and Regenerative Dentistry, joined Dean Nakano in creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, encouraging interaction with the visiting students.

Following lunch, Professor Murakami, Director of the Center for Global Oral Health and the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, led a tour of the hospital facilities.

The core program began on the second day, featuring lectures, clinical observations, and departmental visits. The students were particularly engaged by the opportunity to learn about cutting-edge research and advanced technologies.

During ISW, a welcome party was held with the participation of Osaka University dental students, including those planning to participate in future study-abroad programs, with the ISW participants. Students from each university delivered presentations about their home countries and institutions, fostering a dynamic cross-cultural leaning environment.

Participating international students commented on the inspiring nature of the program, noting the value of exposure to leading research and innovative techniques. The ISW experience provided valuable insight into Japanese dentistry and served as a catalyst for future career development.

The Graduate School of Dentistry at Osaka University remains committed to fostering international collaboration through initiatives such as ISW, contributing to the development of globally competent dentists and researchers.

The next ISW program is scheduled for August 25th to 29th, welcoming students from Newcastle University (UK) and University of Malaya (Malaysia). We anticipate a week filled with new connections and discoveries.
