International Symposium Held at Kyungpook National University, Korea

On Sunday, May 31, 2026, an international symposium and the 10th anniversary academic conference of Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital were held at the School of Dentistry, Kyungpook National University, Korea, a partner institution of the Graduate School of Dentistry, the University of Osaka. From our side, Dean Kazuhiko NAKANO, Associate Dean Shinsuke OBA, Professor Masahide TAKEDACHI, Professor Masae KUBONIWA, Associate Professor Rena OKAWA, and Lecturer Tomoaki IWAYAMA participated in the event.

The symposium was opened with remarks by Professor Youn-Hee Choi, Dean of the School of Dentistry at Kyungpook National University, and Professor Kazuhiko NAKANO. Under the theme “From Evidence to Practice,” researchers from both Japan and Korea delivered a wide range of presentations.

During the morning sessions, Associate Professor Rena OKAWA, Lecturer Tomoaki IWAYAMA, and Professor Masahide TAKEDACHI from the University of Osaka presented their latest research. Their talks covered topics such as screening for systemic diseases based on pediatric periodontal lesions, cellular mechanism of periodontal tissue regeneration, and the development of cell-based therapy for periodontal tissue regeneration. Researchers from Kyungpook National University also presented studies on evaluation of an Adriamycin-induced mouse renal disease model, non-invasive oral photography for early detection and predictive modeling of dental diseases, and odontometric analyses in Korean children and adolescent, leading to active academic exchange.

Graduate School of Dentistry, the University of Osaka and School of Dentistry at Kyungpook National University have maintained a longstanding academic partnership, and this symposium served as a valuable opportunity to further strengthen their collaboration. Continued cooperation between the two institutions is expected to promote the advancement of education and research in dentistry, as well as the development of international joint research initiatives.
