Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics provide orthodontic treatments using not only conventional but also highly advanced techniques including skeletal anchorage and lingual bracket system etc.
In treatments of patients having severe problems with congenital cranio-facial anomaly and jaw deformity, we are able to give comprehensive treatments in corporation with other specialized departments, which is an advantage of our general hospital for dental care.
In addition, we provide useful information on all types of orthodontic treatments for patients with varied problems and information on treatment fee.

■The contents of the clinical service
Malocclusion has a harmful influence on oral function i.e. eating and speaking. Poor appearance is affected psychologically and socially, contributing to a decrease in QOL. Orthodontic treatment improves not only malocclusion and maxillofacial disharmony but also oral function and QOL. Probably, you know the orthodontic treatment which is using braces and wire. In this department, the advanced methods are also provided as well as such general ones. The advanced treatment is offered in collaboration with other departments based on the evidence about growth of bone and teeth and the results of the clinical study about the aesthetic appearance of a face. Additionally, the orthodontic treatment using with titanium screw, which is emporarily fixed in alveolar bone as anchorage device, and with bone distraction are performed for treatment of severe malocclusion of mandibular or maxillary prognathism, open bite, and deep bite.

Osaka University Dental Hospital provides comprehensive worldclass quantiative as well as qualitative care for patients with a cleft lip and palate and other congenital craniofacial abnormalities. Particularly, our department plays an important role as we are responsible for providing orthodontic/orthognathic treatment for these patients with interdisciplinary cooperation (e.g., working along with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Oral-Facial Disorders). We aim to provide safe and efficient treatment methods with implementation of new technologies as well as the development of new treatment techniques and methodologies.
